Irrsinn.net: taking joy in human unreason

Chicago

First off, I strongly dislike musicals. All that droning and singing and stuff doesn’t get it for me. The only musical I have ever loved was The Sound of Music. Corny, right? I like quietly loud movies like Cast Away. That said…

Wow. Damn. I am in awe. Assuming everyone was singing with their own voices (even Richard Gere), everyone had great voices, particularly Zeta-Jones. She played her role extremely well, as did everyone. Gere was hilarious and very attractive (something I usually don’t say about him). Queen Latifah was great, although she was a little bigger than I was expecting (surely those boobies were not all hers; she wouldn’t have been able to dance in those rap videos a decade ago). I am speechless.

Favorite numbers or songs or whatever: the six women explaining their crimes (“If you pop that gum one more time…”). Gere’s desparate Tap Dance, and the “All that Jazz” at the beginning. Excellent.
