Weekly Linkage: the TSA, Microwaves, and “Dot Dot Dot”
This week’s internet cruising: Why You Should Never Search For Free WordPress Themes in Google or Anywhere Else – WordPress, Multisite and BuddyPress plugins, themes, news and help – WPMU.org – I'm not at all surprised by the hackery going on in free WordPress themes. YouTube – Brick in a washing machine – I've always wanted to do this! Twitter’s Response to WikiLeaks Subpoena Should Be the Industry Standard | Threat Level | Wired.com – "Twitter introduced a new feature last month without telling anyone about it, and the rest of the tech world should take note and come up with its own version of it Twitter beta-tested a spine."…

Untenable Workplace Hotshots
“When Smart People are Bad Employees” offers up three types of hotshots in the workplace: The Heretic: “However, sometimes really smart employees develop agendas other than improving the company. Rather than identifying weaknesses, so that he can fix them, he looks for faults to build his case. Specifically, he builds his case that the company is hopeless and run by a bunch of morons.” The Flake: “Then Roger changed. He would miss days of work without calling in. It may never happen again. The survey’s authors concluded that there was “widespread confusion” about “the line between teaching and preaching.” – I'd like to see the stats for people who had taken part in Unitarian Universalist religious education–my understanding is that that program spans multiple religions. Earning Extra Income with a (Small) Blog – Another very awesome post on self-publishing. Am I gearing up to something? I dunno. $72,000…

Weekly linkage
Everything’s a day behind this week. I wanted these out yesterday. Anyway, here’s this week’s internet cruising: The Little Easy – OMG, can I move into this house, please? Please? White Bean and Onion Confit (recipe) – I'm totally going to try this. Healthy and yummy-sounding (although that's quite a bit of oil). Graphic Designer’s Journey: Freelance to Freedom (Infographic) – Apparently I'm on a freelance kick today. This totally resonated with me. As much as I like people, client work can be rough. It's hard to maintain the cheerful and patient "service industry" outlook 40 hours a week. It feels much more satisfying to do your own work or…
