    GTD: Implementing with Tracks

When I started the new job on Monday, I took a bit of time to consider how I wanted to implement Getting Things Done (GTD) in the workplace. After considering my circumstances — glued to a computer all day, no particular need to access issues from home — I decided to try out Tracks, a Ruby on Rails tool for implementing GTD. Looked hot, so after a few failed attempts to get it installed on XP at work, I set up an account on a hosted server and ran with it. …I love it. Now, I have a PDA, you might say. A nice little Sony Clie 610C that’s served…

    1000th post

This isn’t actually a significant or meaningful post, aside from the fact that’s it’s the 1000th post on this blag. My writing here is often inspired by my readings of books, news, or other blogs, and for the past several days, I haven’t been struck by much that really pinged with me, which is why there have just been several link posts. I’m at the new job, and it’s very nice so far. Because of how late I’m forced to go in in the mornings, I don’t take lunch, and so I’m even less inclined to write here, since my evenings are filled with D & D and financial fun.…

On tax returns and economic stimuli

So, as I’ve made clear in the past, I’ve decided to take on my debt full-tilt using ideas from Dave Ramsey’s books and various financial blogs I read. My budgeting earlier this year was skewed by irregular income for a couple of months, courtesy of leaving teaching, having unemployed time, then starting a new gig. I’ve been chipping down at one debt in particular these past few months — it’s a credit card where one charge went just over the credit limit, blooming in fees and extra charges beyond what I could pay during my paycheck-to-paycheck living while teaching. I made out like a bandit on my tax return this…

    Cats and wall hangings

Part of my quest for a gorgeous and comfy home includes wall hangings. Everything from posters to crochet work, I want them on my walls. Unfortunately, my cats — most notably Jackie — have a problem with that. Nothing on the walls goes undisturbed by her if she can get to it. And, alas, all the wall space in my front rooms is accessible to her. She hangs off of them, bats them around, etc. My parents had a set of mirrors they always put up in a style I loved. Three tall, slim mirrors in a descending path along the wall. Very stylish. But any mirror that size is…

    On weddings and rings

I spent time with a couple of friends this weekend that will, within the next couple of years, likely be getting married and starting a family. They spent much of our time together talking about houses and children and wedding rings, which brought me to an interesting revelation. I care not one whit about wedding rings. Dresses, either, but the ring was a big topic of discussion. He’s planning on getting her a ring from Tiffany’s. It’s important that the diamond not be synthetic, because their love is real and the ring should be, too. Nor should the ring be less than about $1800, because their love is worth a…
