    On Physical Things

I swear, there are few things more encouraging for someone in a weight-lifting slump than to read about someone else’s success, and admittedly, struggles. Hell, weight-lifting is about struggle. My only problem is a general frustration with the slowness of my progress. About four years ago, I began a weight-lifting routine, following my father’s suggestions and instructions on how to do the exercises (he used to “geek” about weight-lifting himself, with tons of books and years of experience; plus, we have similar body types, so, with the exception of the difference in upper-body potentials, he could teach me a lot). The difference in only a couple months, which was how…

    W00t w00t! (Is that how it’s spelled?)

I can honestly say I don’t care how “w00t w00t” is spelled. I’m happy now, despite a loudly negative reaction to my post about reparations. Looks like I’m two for two (maybe even three for three, depending on a possible quiet withdrawal response to my post about drinking that I don’t feel like linking to) about pissing people off. What can I say? I’m sorry I bothered her by including quotes of her post, but I’m not sorry about what I wrote. Hell, it’s my fucking haven. Which, for some odd reason, my father keeps saying as “heaven”. No, father-deary. Not quite. There’s a little bit of difference in the…

    Reparations and Apologies

After reading this entry over at Raven’s site, along with this piece over at Negro, Please yesterday, I was all set and fired to write an entry about reparations and apologies for slavery done by ancestors. But I didn’t. I was a wee bit too angry, particularly at Raven’s entry, to write anything that wouldn’t have been filled with lots of profanity and very little coherency. I’m not sure I’m much better now. (Update after writing, but before posting: Read into this post what you will, but know that you can never accurately play telepath when reading. Perceiving anything more than frustration on my part and a general inability to…

    One Must Always Ask Why

I chatted briefly with an old buddy from high school today on AIM. She surprised me by telling me she thinks I am a “neat person” and that she still reads this area of my site. That’s very high praise from her, actually. It’s not like hearing that you’re cool from a family member or someone that loves you; strangers, acquaintances, friends, and enemies actually critique you, often in quite different ways than even the most nitpicking family members do. There’s a certain amount of distance in those four types of relationships that makes judgements both more and less valid (using I don’t know who’s standard of a valid judgement…).…

    To Whom It May Concern

To Whom it May Concern: Sir or Madame International Baccalaureate Organization employee, my account at your Test Results site has been blocked. I am truly sorry that I was impatient and attempted to obtain my scores early in a persistant manner. I understand the error of my ways. However, two whole hours have passed since my last attempt to log in with my pin that you will not accept as valid; is it not in everyone’s best interests to let bygones be bygones and let me get my scores? My IB Coordinator is vacationing this week and I will not be able to get my scores from her. Likewise, I…
