    New Witches Story: “Esteemed Relations”

“Esteemed Relations” is the fifth piece of the Witches of Ming Ung tale: “Did you really need to wear that?” Hardi whispered to Robert. “You look like a clown.” Robert straightened his lavender shirt. “I, my dear, am a peacock in a field of pigeons.” One of the soldiers behind him snorted a laugh. Robert shot him a look, but continued, “I know how station ladies are. I have to stand out from these military types, or I’ll never get… noticed.” Hardi rolled her eyes and eyed his luggage dubiously as they moved forward in line. She refused to ask what was in the five bags, since the answer might…

    Quasi-daily linkage

The Tiny Life , Archive » Driving Habits vs Gas Prices – This might be one of the most ridiculous graphs I've ever seen. Just sayin'. Facebook’s Gone Rogue; It’s Time for an Open Alternative – Wired is a little late to report on this, but this is one of the reasons I've done a sweep and shut down much of my presence on FB. If you're writing a book on frugal living, are you still trying to make a living off of it? Spinning right wrong – Heather spins a great tale. "But then an alien spaceship flew…

New Transhuman Congress story: “Cultivating Progress”

I finished up the Transhuman Congress arc of Ted with the story “Cultivating Progress“: “I guess it’s my turn now,” drawled Baud Scoli of the mid-Atlantic region. I paid more attention. A stocky, bare-headed woman of middle years, Scoli was notoriously blunt but generally fair, in my opinion. “I don’t know why the hell we’re all on parade, honestly,” she started. “Conscript the artificials and leave the real people out of it. Done.” There should be a lot of fun tidbits for folks frustrated with a lack of answers thus far in the series. If you – like I – don’t remember what was going on in the plot, check…

But I don’t want to make your day

All I needed was a stopper for a file cabinet. Some slider shelfy thing that would hold up my measly 10 file folder. What I got was a Great Moment of Objectification. I strolled up to a group of potential helpers, and as I asked the one I’ve seen most around the office, “Hey, do you know where I can find–” his buddy gave me a once-over and muttered, “Mmm, mmm. You just made my day.”
