Quasi-daily linkage
Welcome! – Okay, nevermind on the link below. This intro provides some good insight into the Tiny Living thing, which is more than just 60 sq. ft houses. Not sure that I want to downsize my house in particular, but it's an interesting movement. Tiny House In Asheville – I'm increasingly fascinated by this Tiny House movement (and need to do more research on it), although it initially strikes me as a fairly artificial constraint on living. a series of rants – Auntie Pixelante gives good rants. On a non-game-related note (but relevant), I really should stop saying "fail". If I talk to you in person, help me stop saying…

Quasi-daily linkage
A new “onload” scheme – Easy! Reader – This is a really clever way to avoid having page-specific JavaScript files (which I've done on larger projects). Tomorrow’s Women, Tomorrow’s World – A more British look at the decline of women in the IT industry. Clients From Hell : Of course I want it today! If I want it tomorrow,… – Um, yes. I love "Clients From Hell." YouTube – Let's Play Wizardry 8 – Honestly. Someone recorded playing Wizardry 8. It's in 64 parts. feveredwritings: The Complications of Discussing Prejudice – Greg tackles a racism discussion and gets popped in the mouth unfairly. Interesting discussion ensues. Oleg Sych – »…

Jack move, fool!
Courtesy of G, I bring you “Pondering Indie Spirit: Derek Yu Speaks“. Skip the article and go to the comments. (That’s mean, I know, but I leave the indie game drooling to G. I’m sure Yu is at least a moderately cool guy.) Read the first comment. No, really. Go read it now. Note that “Flytrap” is that man’s game… apparently. This is the beginning of one of the more hilariously-executed jack moves I’ve seen on a comment thread. I’ve seen smoother, certainly, but rarely funnier. I can pretty much promise that reading that thread is worth the 30 minutes of your life that it’ll take. It takes a few…

Left for Dead (2)? Maybe left behind
Played a quick game of the L4D2 demo last night with Greg. I can’t say I was really impressed. I liked the new characters and the melee abilities (geetar!)… and the magnum pistol… But the other weapons didn’t stand out and the new monsters weren’t memorable. I’ll give it another go on a server that isn’t so laggy, but I may end up waiting until I can catch the game on a $20 weekend like I did the first one.

Left 4 Dead — a gateway drug?
I seem to find an FPS that I enjoy every few years. First, there was Doom 2. Subsequent games within my field of view (Quake (2), Halo) were too complicated for me in their control schemes. Crouching, jumping, aiming. Doom 2 had none of these, was still great. Playing Quake was like moving from a 3-button Sega Genesis controller to a modern XBox 360 controller. Buttons everywhere for shit I couldn’t keep track of.
