I'll clump web design talk and gadget talk here, I guess.

    Critters!

I finally put up T-dawg’s and my Critters in a Box project from Artificial Intelligence this fall. I even made a nice little page with background information and usage instructions, for those who care. If there are major problems with what’s there (i.e. it can’t be downloaded, it makes your system blow up, etc.), let me know. Otherwise, it’s given as-is, no guarantees, yadda yadda. If you want the source code, I’ll email it to just about anyone that asks.

    Rawr!

Here’s what I want a solution to: Microsoft Exchange uses the typical Outlook rules, except that they’re stored on the server. This is nice, because you can automatically sift through and sort emails before you ever see them in Outlook or Outlook Web Access. These rules permit emails to be automcatically forwarded or redirected. Forwarding works in the same style as manual forwarding, in which the subject line is prepended with “FW:” and the original headers lie within the message. Redirecting, on the other hand, obliterates the original headers and makes it seem that the email was sent directly to the person the email is redirected to. Those options aren’t…

    del.icio.us is back!

Not that it went away anywhere other than on this site, but, well, these things happen. Instead of fighting with Eric Anderson’s Del.icio.us Integrator for WordPress (which decided to stop working suddenly [possibly related to my upgrade to WP 1.5.2]), I’m using del.icio.us’s own JavaScript method (called linkrolls) of displaying links. Thusly, I am again displaying links. The way it’s set up is all slick and dynamic and stuff. Now, if I can just kill the damn PHP error on my archive page… (Oh, and for completely unrelated linkage, see this. *grin* I feel famous.)

    What in tarnation?

Why have I suddenly become obsessed with reggaeton? Don Omar, Daddy Yankee, etc. Weird. I’ve got to be scaring coworkers and my roomie if they hear what’s blaring out of my headphones. Then again, I may do that normally… I’ve hacked out a few thousand words over the past couple of days, and while not all of it is published yet, some of it is up on the Ila des Mains series page. My character is morphing on me, becoming less nervous and neurotic in some respects, but I shall endeavor to keep her close to the brand of psychotic she was in the first couple of stories. That, of…

    Boo boo!

Today I finished securing my Sexy Linux Box (TM) as much as I probably will. The Sexy Linux Box is a desktop in my office that has been converted to a RedHat Linux pseudo-webserver for me to work with (not related to podcasting). Well, there’s nothing “pseudo” about it except that it’s locked down enough to not be visible or accessible from the outside world. Setting up and securing the box was pretty damn easy, despite the fact that N. and the Bronz-E One both wailed about the fact that I would have to learn iptables. I got to work early this morning, read the relevant background info on firewalls…
