Just a couple this week. It feels like everyone’s quiet on the blagowubs lately.
- Giving Away, Not Selling, My Stuff – So very timely for me. I sold the desk, but clothes, stuff… I just gave it away. I, too, am lousy about getting mail out and keeping up with stuff like listings. I just want it gone, and the money was spent and gone years ago (generally).
- Vince Vaughn Responds to the Gay Joke in The Dilemma Controversy – Vaughn says, "Drawing divided lines over what we can and cannot joke about does exactly that; it divides us. Most importantly, where does it stop?" But the issue isn't what you should and shouldn't joke about. The issue is the use of the word "gay" in a derogatory fashion. The joke wasn't subverting that use.
I mentioned last week that I had a mostly new computer coming in. The case arrived on Monday (filthy teasing UPS), and the CPU and mainboard arrived last night.
Folks, this thing is a computer.
Going from a single-core 2.4 GHz processor to a quad-core 3 GHz may completely change how I view my computer. I’m serious.

For the last two weeks, I’ve been depriving myself of good health and sleep in the interests of getting a couple of volunteer websites off the ground, writing, and cleaning and throwing away crap in preparation for having a temporary roomie at the end of the month. My office is becoming a guest bedroom, and my new desk and reading chair are moving into the bedroom.
Looking at this in the long-term, it’s great, because it means I can push for a two-bedroom apartment when Greg and I inevitably move. Being on different sleep schedules is going to complicate things a bit, since he’ll be dead to the world when I’d normally sync my phone: about 07:00. It’s an inconvenience I think I’m willing to put up with, since he isn’t bothered by it.
Then again, maybe he’s just waiting on me to get frustrated and flee back into a full office.

Just a few, since I’m so far behind on my reading (down to 425 unread items!) and I just posted a set on Friday. Enjoy.
This week’s lesson in life is to always, always, always read the fine print of your lease, even when renewing. Straight up rookie move on my part, assuming the renewal terms would be the same as the original lease and not familiarizing myself with North Carolina laws on renter/landlord laws (especially graceful early lease termination).
So we won’t be moving until the house is sold, and I had to argue for an amendment that would let us terminate the lease gracefully when the house is sold, regardless of whether the new owners want us to move out. I’m kicking myself in the teeth today. I feel like a damn idiot.
No harm done in the long run, though, and more importantly, I’m not even slowing down on the shrinkage process. I’ve been steadily scanning in documents in the evening between stress-relieving bouts of Left 4 Dead 2. I’m well into the C’s in my file cabinet, and finding all sorts of things to get rid of.
