    True Dance Technique at Work

I had the joy of seeing a belly dance show in person this weekend. Ladies from throughout the region, with international repute, different skills, and different styles. It was so damn inspiring. The costumes were top-notch, the crowd was hype, and there was a cash bar. A great Saturday night in the making. Greg and I got stood up pretty rudely for dinner at Libretto’s beforehand, but we had a great time despite my annoyance. I tried a delicious fettuccine al forno (essentially what I’d call a carbonara: pasta, cream sauce, bacon, peas, bell peppers) and Greg got an intimidating but subpar calzone. It’s rare that something has too much…

All 5 of Dem There K’s

It was marvelous. It was exhausting. I’m still sore. With everyone’s help, I raised $660 in the Hopebuilders 5k fundraiser. Thank you! Saturday, at the surprisingly early-feeling 08:00 EST, me, Greg, Scott, Shelton, and Kim gathered in the morning chill. I was already leg-sore from a Jillian Michaels workout Friday night. (I do that workout on mute–something about her manner is so off-putting.)

Belly dance vs. Hip-hop: Inviting Failure

I took about 2-3 hours of belly dance a week this summer, but since we’re working up to a recital in December, we’ve been repeating the same couple of songs over and over again. That’s kind of becoming a problem. This month of belly dance has been a tough…

    Fundraising Challenge: Hopebuilders 5k

Bright and early on October 9, I’ll be walking in the Hopebuilders 5k here in Charlotte to help a local children’s hospital. Gotta help the chillun. I’m walking with an awesome team, The Kings and Queens of Pretty. No, that name wasn’t my idea. …Okay, maybe it was. See, what had happened wuz, everyone on the team makes pretty things: websites, games… websites… Anyway, the name works. I did this one last year with some of the Skookum team, and it was a blast. This year, I’m going to mix it up a bit. Buh-buh-BUH: The Challenge Over on the left of this-here blag (if you aren’t on a mobile…

    Purple-urple!

I have a cast! Purple is one of my favorite colors, and I was quick to pick it for the thing I’ll be staring at and working around for the next 4 weeks. I’m still mostly left-handed, except now I’m stuck taking baths, too. 🙁 Good news is that my wrist hurts less since I got the cast put on.
