behavioral advertising icon – Coincidentally crossing my plate right after this tidbit of narrow-sightedness (see Greg’s comment there, too), I had to cackle a bit. I like the idea of disclosing–all the time, not just when you register for a service–that a site is gathering your behavioral information. I also agree that a weird triangle icon in the midst of a column of ads (text or image) won't get noticed and won't make sense.
WordPress Custom Post Types Guide – Quite handy, as I'm working on a new WordPress website at the moment (not my own–it's volunteer work) and didn't really want to have to find plugins to do things better suited to custom post types… like events.
It was marvelous. It was exhausting. I’m still sore. With everyone’s help, I raised $660 in the Hopebuilders 5k fundraiser. Thank you!
Saturday, at the surprisingly early-feeling 08:00 EST, me, Greg, Scott, Shelton, and Kim gathered in the morning chill. I was already leg-sore from a Jillian Michaels workout Friday night. (I do that workout on mute–something about her manner is so off-putting.)
For the last two weeks, I’ve been depriving myself of good health and sleep in the interests of getting a couple of volunteer websites off the ground, writing, and cleaning and throwing away crap in preparation for having a temporary roomie at the end of the month. My office is becoming a guest bedroom, and my new desk and reading chair are moving into the bedroom.
Looking at this in the long-term, it’s great, because it means I can push for a two-bedroom apartment when Greg and I inevitably move. Being on different sleep schedules is going to complicate things a bit, since he’ll be dead to the world when I’d normally sync my phone: about 07:00. It’s an inconvenience I think I’m willing to put up with, since he isn’t bothered by it.
For some reason, I felt like I didn’t have a lot of links this week for all the cruising I did, but I was wrong. I plowed through 280 Google Reader posts and was caught up as of yesterday afternoon. It may never happen again.
Do not use Bible to attack homosexuality – A well-written opinion piece. I struggle with the idea of taking any holy text wholesale–so why not pick your passages?–but if you take as a premise that the whole thing is true, then this guy's got a point. I wish they allowed commenting; I'd love to see the discussion that article.
Could ‘Goldilocks’ planet be just right for life? – Yahoo! News – Look at this: "It's unknown whether water actually exists on the planet, and what kind of atmosphere it has. But because conditions are ideal for liquid water, and because there always seems to be life on Earth where there is water, Vogt believes 'that chances for life on this planet are 100 percent.'" …What? Water hasn't been seen yet, but there's a 100% chance of it being there and there being life? Erm.
Bollywood Gay film faces Censors – I very much want to see this film. "Kapil commented on the action taken for the submission and said: 'The Censor Board objected to the kissing and lovemaking. They asked us to delete those scenes. We refused. We aren’t trying to do any kind of sleazy stuff here. Ours is the first ever serious gay love story. The intimacy is essential. Our film is now with the revising committee.'"
In light of therecentLGBTteendeaths, Dan Savage started what’s called the It Gets Better project on YouTube as a way to say to these teens what he wishes he could have before they died: high school is shit and it gets better. I think it’s an awesome project.
