    Awesome smoothie

WO and I experimented this weekend with smoothies and ended up with something rather tastee: Cranberry/Strawberry Smoothie 1 can Ocean Spray whole berry cranberry sauce (Anyone know of a low/no-sugar alternative? We couldn’t find frozen cranberries, and this crap has high fructose corn syrup in it.) 1 bag of frozen strawberries 3-5 tablespoons nonfat plain yogurt Blitz in a blender (my low-speed “puree” setting works very well for frozen fruits) until smooth. Makes about 4 1-cup servings at about 270 calories each (ouch! damn HFCS). Very, very tastee, though. The yogurt makes it a little creamy. If you’ve got frozen cranberries, I’d recommend using 100% cranberry juice as a liquid…

    Not-a-review: A Very Hungry Girl

I wrote yesterday that I was 39 pages into Jessica Weiner’s A Very Hungry Girl (beware: affiliate link!). I went ahead and finished it last night. I’ll admit that I was a little disappointed by the book, as it soon began to describe Weiner’s work in far more detail than her personal struggles. It became — to a certain degree — more about “stuff” than “people”, even though her work as a writer, director, and performer of motivational works is very much about people. But we went from a nitty-gritty view of her world and the people around her to a 1000-foot view of her work. Even the occasional mention…

    The un-grumpy edition

I’ve been struggling to write something constructive here all day. I’m recovering from a two-day migraine that is merely a splitting headache at this point, and I’m on my last thread dealing with my current job. If my last day here weren’t tomorrow, today would be. So while I’m not sure I can manage to be cheerful and helpful here today with links and happy progress, I think I can be “un-grumpy”. I started reading a book I grabbed from Michael this weekend titled A Very Hungry Girl by Jessica Weiner. I’m only 39 pages in, but it’s a tear-jerker.

    Little Engine That Can

I was partway through a post about struggling to find continuing motivation when I decided to reread Zen Habits’ “Get Off Your Butt: 16 Ways to Get Motivated When You’re in a Slump. Unsurprisingly, it got me out of my slump. The winner for now, I think, was #13, “Read about it Daily”. It had been a while since I read blogs — and most of my blog subscriptions are geared towards my goals. Yesterday I took time and read through many of the 300+ entries waiting for me, and found myself excited again. Not crunk, exactly, but ready to move forward with drive, and excited about the ideas being…

The last thing I remember is the oxygen tube…

Yesterday I had an endoscopy (EGD?) to check for ulcers and an ultrasound to check for gall stones. Both were negative. Last Friday, it was an abdominal and pelvic CT scan (without contrast). All my organs were normal. Repeated blood tests show low white blood cell counts, indicating it may be viral. What is it? Sharp, persistent abdominal pain, accompanied by strong nausea (but no vomiting). Not burning, like heartburn. It doesn’t move, like trapped air might. Nexium and other acid-reducers don’t help. I don’t remember the name of my new medicine, but so far, it just makes me dizzy and sleepy. The endoscopy came with a dose of Demerol.…
