    Recharging… Fire!

The way I spend my breaks has been changing since I arrived at Rose. I just spent my entire week’s vacation holed up in my apartment, watching movies and television shows, playing video games, reading, and writing. I checked my email twice, and both times with dread. I free-formed once. I only stepped foot on campus once (with the exception of workouts), and that was for WO to grab a few things. Every other time he needed to go on campus, I stayed in my car and read. I didn’t log onto AIM after about Monday, although I stayed on GTalk most of the time. One of the things I…

    Snooze

It’s that time of the quarter. The time when my alarm clock seems to mysteriously fail at critical times, when I can’t remember if I even turned the damn thing on before I stumbled into bed, and when I feel a need to set at least two alarms and hide one of them, just in case I’m sleepwalking. This morning was the second morning in the past seven days that I’ve overslept when I needed to be up and working on something or meeting someone. I don’t feel as tired as I recall being last year, but I’ve had enough emotional and physical problems and breakdowns over the last few…

    Crockery!

I bought a crockpot back before Christmas break with the hope that having one would help me batch-make food for lunches and dinners. Batch-made food means healthier food, because the meals are planned at a time when I’m not hungry (a problem for me). It also means more consistent food, as it’s easy to forget to make my lunch in the rush of morning if I have to do anything other than shovel something into a container. And since forgetting my lunch means I either go hungry (see above about foolish decisions made while hungry) or eat fried crap from an on-campus location, remembering to take a lunch becomes even…

Two big pieces of news for the week.

I very much have the option to go to Antarctica next winter. No classes stand in my way anymore. The chances of me living with Dr. 7 increased by a substantial amount yesterday when we found out that he will, in fact, most likely be becoming an academic for life. (“Doctor”, indeed…) This is good news. In other news, I still can’t see well enough to read markerboards (or drive, subsequently), even with the drugs. Grr. Maybe it’s not allergies, but rather a genuine illness…

    A successful dinner

So my experiment for this yay-I-have-a-kitchen session was to make an alfredo sauce. Rather than try a traditional recipe that used heavy whipping cream, I modified one that called for cream cheese: 1/2 cup butter 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese 1 cup milk 3/4 – 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1 teaspoon dried basil garlic powder to taste You literally just toss it all in a saucepan and heat it for about twenty minutes. I added broiled chicken and broccoli (and pasta, of course), along with breadsticks, and it came out pretty damn good. It’s a heart-attack in a bowl, though, so the faint of heart need not apply.
