Now I’m a Minecraft Player
Greg‘s been so crunk about Minecraft, I simply had to try it. It’s… alright. It’s an alpha, so none of this is any sort of realistic “Geez, why hasn’t the developer done this?” critique. I assume they’ll get taken care of eventually. I’ve been playing multiplayer with Greg (which means no monsters), and first thing I ran into was the absolute lack of goals and structure. I love The Sims. I’ve taken to playing SimCity 3000 again. Those games have explicit direction provided from the game itself. Minecraft has one (in single player): don’t get et.

I’m a Betazoid Scientist!
Too bad I haven’t figured out how to use my science skills yet… I tried my hand at the Star Trek MMO Saturday night as I was avoiding standing up, sitting down, or walking up and down the stairs in our house. I generally stay away from MMOs: I don’t like internet video game people, I’m prone to throwing myself into video games for hours, and MMOs seem to be geared towards grinding. Greg’s explanation–and this makes sense–is that it’s a server resource necessity to try to lock people up in personal instances of the game (dungeons, etc.) instead of in the shared world. Tidying up LARP character sheets: an app in progress
So. I LARP. Twice a month, I go out of my house dressed like a nurse and stand around acting like I see ghosts and have an extra-special creepy ghost of my own on my shoulder. Yeah, so if I’m late to your Saturday afternoon picnic this summer, this is likely why. I LARP in White Wolf‘s Geist system, which is very new in the LARP world — the worldwide game just started in March.
